FEMA App Redesign Campaign
Role: Creative Direction, Art Direction, Campaign Concept
Client: Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
Year: 2003

Overview:
To help communities stay safe before, during, and after disasters, FEMA launched a redesigned mobile app with enhanced features like real-time alerts and preparedness tools. Our goal: build a campaign that drives awareness and adoption—especially across diverse, at-risk populations.

The Challenge
Design a compelling campaign that:
-
Showcases the redesigned FEMA app
-
Reflects the diversity of communities FEMA serves
-
Reinforces the importance of disaster preparedness
-
Communicates quickly and clearly across digital platforms

The Concept
We developed an imaginative, View-Master-inspired world, rotating through illustrated stories of different communities and disaster scenarios. Each vignette reflected a distinct environment—rural, coastal, urban—showing how preparedness is personal yet universally critical. The visual storytelling emphasized that a prepared community is a safer community.

Creative Elements Included:
Custom illustrations representing natural disasters
Rotating visual narratives across social and video
Digital banners and app store assets
Copywriting focused on action and empathy

The Results
-
+26% increase in user engagement with the FEMA app following campaign rollout
-
National reach through digital, social, and emergency management channels
-
Positive feedback from regional FEMA offices and partner organizations

Leading the development of promotional materials for the FEMA app, I focused on creating clear, compelling content that emphasized both the app’s ease of use and its vital role in disaster preparedness. Working closely with a talented team, we crafted engaging visuals and messaging that made emergency readiness feel simple and accessible. To ensure broad relatability, we featured a diverse cast of characters, reflecting the many communities FEMA serves. Through strategic storytelling and user-friendly design, our materials underscored the importance of staying informed and prepared—helping people take control before disaster strikes.
